Within this post our aim is to give you an insight into what the typical day of a recruiter entails. Although no day is ever the same in recruitment due to each individual/job role having their own specific requirements, we hope this blog post can shed more of a light onto the role.

9am: The time we arrive in office and begin preparing for the day ahead, this includes the usual morning coffee! The night before we typically write down a list of the crucial/main tasks we need to carry out the next day and managing our calender's. Therefore going over this list with our coffee in hand is the next step, in order to refresh our memories and make the day run more smoothly.

9:30am-11am: This point of the morning is where we load up the computers and switch all phone systems on, ready to accept any incoming calls. Checking through all emails received when out of office is what we tend to do next. This is so we are up to date with the status we are at in the recruitment process, and our able to respond, answer queries and keep all parties in the loop, when and where a change may have been made. Another task could also be calling candidate to help prepare them and/or wish them good luck for interviews, or first days in their new roles.

11am: Next up is a mixture of tasks. These can include looking back on any open job adverts, and resumes that have been sent through. This requires calls to be made to potential candidates, in order to screen them against the job description, to see whether they are a good match for the specified criteria. At this point in the day a recruiters role may also include scouting/sourcing potential candidates on multiple social media platforms such as LinkedIn. A recruiters NETWORK is one of the most key tools you could own, this is due to it always growing and changing, and you can utilise them to help spread the word to their connections in one click of a button.
1pm: TIME TO GRAB SOME LUNCH!

2pm: Here we continue with the tasks carried out before lunch, as well as some new tasks such as screen calling candidates found through sourcing social media, reformatting CV's/Sending them on to an employer, arranging interviews, providing feedback between client and candidate etc.

4pm: At this point we begin to reflect on whats happened during the day, and start to update calender's for the week ahead. We will also begin to check in with candidates who have gone in for interviews, training days and/or first days on the job, to make sure everything ran smoothly, collect feedback and start to assist in ironing out any teething issues. We will also being to call back the companies, and infill them on our perspective of potential candidates, selling them to the employer, to then try and gain a mutual understanding/conclusion as to who goes into the next stage and who does not and the reasons why, so we can reflect on it when sourcing other candidates. Another task at this stage in the recruitment process could be a job offer, therefore having to negotiate terms with both parties.
6pm: Around this time in the day it can be crucial to get in final phone calls with candidates who may have not been able to answer phone calls during the day, due to things like work etc. Its also essential to start planning ahead for the next day, check and confirm any meetings, and divert phones in case there is a need for out of hours contact.
7pm: END OF THE DAY
And that is a rough insight into a day in the life of a recruiter, we hope this was helpful and interesting to be able to gage a better idea of our job role!
